I have always loved the 1980s. I am a huge fan of the cheesy films and for years I have listened to the likes of Blondie, The Smiths and The Cure. However, I am massively inspired by the fabulous fashion from this era. Through my teenage years I went through a phase of incorporating the 80s style into my entire wardrobe and I was influenced by icons such as Madonna and Joan Jett. Whereas now I like to be a bit more selective and choose certain trends to add just a spice of the daring 80s into my outfits.
BRIGHT AND GARISH COLOURS
When I think of the 80s, not only do I think of BIG hair and intense eyeshadow, I instantly associate it with bright and garish colours. This entire look started with this FANTASTIC mesh top, that is covered in multicoloured love hearts. As soon as I laid my eyes on this sexy number, I knew I had to have it. Not only does it exude the boldness of the decade but it is also perfect to wear on a night out on the town. If you don’t like the idea of rocking every colour under the sun, you could just add a splash of the trend into your outfit with colourful accessories. This mesh top also embodies the sheer clothing trend of the 80s, which was originated by Kim Basinger and now worn by celebs such as Gigi Hadid and Kendall Jenner.
Everything about fashion in the 80s was striking and they did not stop with the accessories. Chunky jewellery was the perfect way to complete loud outfits and that is exactly why I wanted these fantastic glitter blue hoop earrings. However, investing in a pair of statement earrings is also a perfect way to just include a taste of the 80s.
THE VINYL TREND
We saw vinyl jackets make a comeback last autumn and were seen on a number of stars like Rihanna and Alexa Chung. However, back in the 1980s they were everywhere after Cindy Crawford made them iconic. I love how a vinyl jacket can be such a statement piece but at the same time, an absolute staple for autumnal styling. It goes with so many different looks and is guaranteed to always get you heaps of compliments. I decided to include another vinyl piece and finish off this outfit with my beloved red heeled boots – to also tie in the bright colour trend.
VINYL JACKET & EARRINGS- TOPSHOP, JEANS – LEVI’S, BOOTS – BOOHOO, TOP & BAG – LAZY OAF
There are so many other looks from the 80s that I love such as masculine tailoring, shoulder pads and polka dots but I hope you liked this compilation of my favourite trends.
