As a creative person, I love coming up with new ideas and experimenting with different outlets to keep my creativity flowing. However, it is inevitable that at some point I will hit a creative slump and like most of us do, go through phases where I am lacking a bit of inspiration. I have always been a bit of a dreamer and have often looked towards the future with googly eyes when thinking about where I hoped to be in a few years time. However, of course when you are thinking about the fantasy, all of the obstacles and hard times don’t usually spring to mind. It can be hard to keep focused on your end goals and to feel positive and excited about your ambitions all of the time. So, when you are faced with reality, it can be hard to stay inspired but there are a few things that help get my creative juices flowing.
GOING TO THE THEATRE
Something that is great for helping me feel more creative is going to some kind of artistic show, including concerts and theatre. Recently I have been to a Taylor Swift concert, I have been to see Heathers the Musical starring Carrie Hope Fletcher and a musical about Dusty Springfield. All three were flippin’ AMAZING and after each and every one of those amazing nights, I was left with an incredible buzz. I was amazed by their talent and passion – and I don’t think there is anything more inspiring than that. Although I’m pretty sure I won’t be singing in my own world tour or starring in a musical anytime soon – it just reminded me of my dreams and even though it is SUPER cheesy – that they can come true. Seeing my idols who have accomplished SO much.. and have overcome struggles.. left me feeling overwhelmed and itching to make more of a start with my own goals.

GETTING THROUGH MY READING LIST
Something else that I have been trying to do more of lately, is read. I am extremely guilty of not picking up a book unless I am on holiday – but I am trying to put a stop to this. As somebody who hopes to make a successful career in writing, it is pretty despicable that I don’t read enough. However, when I do, it definitely switches on the creativity in me and makes me want to write more and make an actual start to my BIG goals – like maybe one day write a book? (Who knows… it could actually happen).
BAKING DELICIOUS CAKES
It may sound a bit weird but something else that inspires me is baking. I really enjoy the process of coming up with ideas of what I could make, spending hours creating something and being proud of the outcome (assuming it turns out well). It makes me think about how amazing it would feel to accomplish something much bigger… and tasty cakes definitely make me happy… which is a good start to feeling inspired, right?
DRAWING AND PAINTING
For similar reasons to my point above, I also love drawing and painting. It is something I have abandoned over the past few years but I have recently got back into it. It is a perfect creative outlet for me as I can design whatever I want and make something just for me. I love feeling proud of the outcome and I also find the process very therapeutic. I have found that whenever I do something with complete creative freedom, it inspires me to go back to or start completing my bigger life goals.
WATCHING AMAZING FILMS
Another one of my passions is film. I am a massive film buff. I studied it at university and originally set out to be a famous screenwriter. Even though that isn’t the path I am following anymore, I still feel so driven and inspired when I watch an outstanding film that has been made impeccably. Again, I think it is just getting a buzz from other peoples talents and imagining doing something incredible myself, even if it isn’t to the same scale as making a huge Hollywood movie.
BEING OUTDOORS IN NATURE
This may be a bit of a cliche but being outdoors in nature always leaves me feeling positive and hopeful. Giving your mind some time to just breathe and soak everything in can do wonders for your motivation and will more than likely leave you feeling ready to take on a new challenge. I actually decided to start my blog after taking a walk in the peak district… I don’t know what it is about being around greenery but it does something to my mind! I think it is really helpful to just give yourself some space from doing anything, so that you can collect your thoughts and feel refreshed.
I think the main theme here is to surround yourself with your passions, people you admire and things you love. Also, accomplishing small creative things could easily help you achieve something magnificent one day, it is just making that start. It is also important to let your mind relax so that you can actually process all of your fabulous thoughts! I hope this helped anyone that is looking for some inspiration to make a start with their passions and if you have any tips, please let me know! 🙂 x
