I have always been completely obsessed with clothes. Whenever I see something that I love, I just can’t stop thinking about it until it has been purchased and safely placed inside my wardrobe. When I was a teenager I idolised characters like Carrie Bradshaw, who had a ridiculous number of outfits stored in a walk-in wardrobe and I hoped that I would one day be so lucky. However, I was always under the impression that once I had collected a sizable amount of clothes that I would calm down a bit. However, that doesn’t seem to be happening anytime soon… which can get extremely expensive.
When I come across something I love, I assume that once I finally own it that I’ll be content with what I have but… then I come across something else that is new and shiny and I go through the exact same process. I think it is safe to say that I have an addiction. I am trying my best to reduce how much I spend as it obviously is not good for my bank balance, especially now that I have bills to pay. I have stopped buying any pricey fashion pieces unless I am head over heels in LOVE with it but even then, I need to be honest with myself about what I can afford and if my wardrobe already has anything similar. I mean, how many striped t-shirts does one need?
Since I am having to minimise my spending I have been doing a bit of budget shopping. I decided to do some digging in Primark and I was pleasantly surprised with what I found. These shoes, sunglasses and dress were all purchased for under £20 – which is flippin’ amazing! They may not be perfect or have the same quality as more luxurious pieces but for the price, they are brilliant.
DRESS, SHOES, SUNGLASSES – PRIMARK, BAG, EARRINGS – ACCESSORISE
I love the high neck and horizontal brown stripes on this mini dress which is very sixties indeed. It is a bit shorter than I am used to but great for when I want to get my legs out in this humid heat. I also can’t wait to style it up in Autumn with some tights, chunky boots and a vinyl jacket. I couldn’t believe my luck when I came across these powder blue mules in a faux suede material for just £10. I don’t have any blue shoes at the moment so I am very excited to spice up some of my beloved outfits with these babies. And finally, these round sunglasses are the perfect addition to complete any outfit by adding a retro twist and the dramatic size will definitely make a statement.
Even though I am currently trying to limit myself on what I buy, I will always be a shopaholic at heart. There will always be a new trend, a new style and a different look to recreate. However, there are definitely ways to work around this without breaking the bank such as reworking old clothes, which I discussed here, going to clothes swapping events, looking in charity shops, shopping the sales or shopping in stores like Primark and TK MAXX. Trust me, you will be surprised at what beauties you can find.
